Saifee Hospital

Location: Mumbai
Year: 2005

Saifee Hospital exudes a feeling of warmth and comfort, an aesthetic that’s often difficult to achieve in the premises of a healthcare institution. Patients and visitors alike are energised by the warmth within, and great care was taken to avoid an outrightly clinical design. In the ICU section, the generous use of glass partitions, tilted at an angle for better viewing of the patients, offers a sense of openness and transparency and delicately stained glass additions make a lively visual for the patients who are confined to their beds.

The maternity ward was designed to symbolise cheerfulness, creating a soothing environment to instantly put an anguished mother at ease. Dolphins occur as a recurring motif, symbols of nature that represent the inherent qualities of maternal instinct, intimate relationships and playfulness. Spread out over two levels, care has been taken to ensure a smooth transition of the theme across both floors. The hospital’s exclusive VIP suite is one of its kind, well-equipped to make both patient and attendant comfortable. The truly royal suite is more like a private apartment with top of the line facilities. The opulence envisaged was brought to fruition to serve its purpose as a high end recovery room for the city’s elite. True to the brief, the facility was designed to indeed be a home away from home.
